FSC stands for the Forest Stewardship Council. FSC certification ensures that products come from responsibly managed forests that provide environmental, social and economic benefits. The Forest Stewardship Council sets the standards for responsible forest management. It is a volunteer program that uses the power of the marketplace to protect forests and our environment for future generations.
The larger question is why do we care about forestry standards? What does it mean for me? Well, simply put we need the forests of the world to continue to live. To breath clean air, to have clean water to drink, for the clothes we wear, for shelter and so much more.
The forests of the world are home to half of the world's species and are believed to hold many of the medications we will need as a society in the next century. Forests protect our world from greenhouse gas emissions and carbon pollution. Forests cover 30% of our planet and are home to 70% of the terrestrial animals and plants that call earth home. If we do not protect this land our environment will certainly pay the price.
